Their vetting will commence at 2 pm, starting with Geoffrey Ruku, the current Member of Parliament for Mbeere North, who has been nominated for the Public Service docket.

The National Assembly has announced that it will conduct the vetting of the Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary nominees, Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Cheptumo, on 14 April 2025.

The two were nominated last month by President William Ruto as part of his recent Cabinet reshuffle.

In a notice issued by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, the vetting process will be handled by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments. The committee will later table its report before the National Assembly.

Their vetting will commence at 2 pm, starting with Geoffrey Ruku, the current Member of Parliament for Mbeere North, who has been nominated for the Public Service docket.

His nomination follows the removal of Justin Muturi, whose tenure ended after a fallout with President Ruto.

At 4 pm, the committee will vet Hanna Cheptumo, who has been nominated for a newly established position in the Ministry of Gender.

Cheptumo is the widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, who passed away last month while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

The nominees are required to present various clearance certificates, including those from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

Additional required documents include clearance from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, the Commission for University Education, and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

The public has been invited to submit written statements on the nominees’ suitability by April 10, 2025.

"The public is invited to submit any comments regarding the suitability of the nominees by April 10, 2025, at 5:00 pm," reads part of the notice.

Members of the public can file their submissions in the form of sworn written statements, supported by evidence, challenging the suitability of any nominee for the respective docket.

Once the vetting is concluded, the National Assembly Committee on Appointments will compile a report to be presented to Parliament for debate and approval.
